Purnaa, who is also known as Shamna Kasim in filmi circles, is making a comeback to Kannada cinema this week. The actress’ return is with actor-director Ramesh Aravind’s latest directorial, 100, which opens in theatres on November 19. The film is Ramesh’s interpretation of Susi Ganeshan’s Thiruttu Payale 2, and deals with the horrors of cybercrime. While Ramesh plays a cybercrime police official, Purnaa is his wife in the film that he describes as a family thriller, and the actress is happy that she finally has a release in the post-pandemic scenario.

According to Purnaa, the story apart, the fact that Ramesh was helming it and playing the main lead was the clincher for her, which then paved the way as her Kannada comeback cinema. In a conversation with TOI the actress said that although she was gung-ho about working with Ramesh, the language seemed daunting, given that it has been close to a decade since she last did a Kannada film. “Yes, I’ve done two films here, but with so many Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu movies, I missed out on doing movies in Sandalwood. So, I didn’t get time to learn the language. But even that didn’t discourage me from doing 100; it’s a film I’m proud of,” she was quoted as saying.

The actress adds that Ramesh not only alleviated her fears, but also made sure that every scene was explained to her in Tamil so that she could understand it better. Her character in the film, says Purnaa, has a rural background, who is then thrown into city life post marriage. Helping her circumvent city life and the regular husband-wife issues is her sister-in-law, played by Rachita Ram, which is a character that Ramesh introduced in the script, as part of the changes he made to make it more relatable for Kannada film audiences. Now that she has done yet another Kannada film, Purnaa wants to explore the industry better.
