Aamir Khan's most recent film, Laal Singh Chaddha has not performed poorly at the box office. The big-budget picture, which also features Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya, did not surpass the Rs. 50 crore mark within its first six days of release. The movie is the most recent in a long line of Bollywood blockbusters that have recently performed poorly at the box office. Actor R Madhavan addressed this tendency as well as the relative popularity of movies from the South.

According to the Hindustan Times, Madhavan was questioned to react to the disappointing results of recent major Hindi films, especially Laal Singh Chaddha, at the teaser premiere of his next film Dhokha-Round D Corner in Mumbai on Wednesday. The actor-filmmaker said, "If we knew (why Laal Singh Chaddha didn't work), we would all be making hit films. Nobody starts off thinking that we're making the wrong film. The intent and hard work behind it is just as intense as with every film that an actor works on or doesn't. So, all the big films that have been released... the intent was to make a good film and make it work."

He further stated that just a small number of South Indian films have outperformed Hindi films, contradicting the assumption that they are doing so. The actor claimed that it could not be referred to as a pattern. According to him, the only South Indian films that have performed better than those starring actors from Hindi films include Baahubali 1, Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa, KGF: Chapter 1 and KGF: Chapter 2. He continued by saying that since they were wonderful movies, it could not be construed as a pattern and that, "if good films come, they'll work."

The actor remarked that, no matter the language, moviegoers would go see movies in theatres if offered great content. Madhavan also stated, "Post COVID-19, people's likes and preferences have changed. So if we make the kinds of films that people will watch, with the kinds of films that are coming out today, we'll have to become a little bit more progressive."

The next film Madhavan will appear in is Dhokha-Round D Corner which is being directed by Kookie Gulati. Darshan Kumaar, Aparshakti Khurana, and Khushalii Kumar are also featured in the movie. The movie will premiere in theatres on September 23.
