Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy is widely regarded as the adult animated show that revolutionised the genre. Even though The Simpsons did occupy a similar space and is probably more well-known, Family Guy did not hold back in exploring mature socio-political themes. Animated shows such as Archer have also found great success over the years, with critics praising it for its wit and humour. Whereas shows such as Rick and Morty and South Park have gained cult status for the unhinged subtext on contemporary issues in their stories. The more recent shows such BoJack Horseman have found the right balance in narrating tragic tales through black comedy and satire.
