Reality TV series Bigg Boss is almost a cultural phenomenon. Based on the format of the Dutch show Big Brother, Bigg Boss has been adapted in seven Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Telugu and Bengali.

The Hindi version debuted in 2006, with Arshad Warsi as the host. The show saw celebrities hurling slippers, breaking utensils, falling in love, falling out of love all the while being isolated in a house under constant surveillance. Several celebrities, including Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Farah Khan took turns to host, but Salman Khan finally took over the duties in 2015, and has remained associated with the show ever since.
