All eyes are on late actor Irrfan's son Babil Khan as he is making his acting debut with Netflix's dark musical thriller Qala.
Late veteran actor Irrfan's son, debutant Babil Khan in Netflix's upcoming release Qala, has big shoes to fill. But, the young actor doesn't feel pressured to deliver.
On Tuesday late evening (November 15), the lead pair of Qala, comprising Tripti Dimri and Babil Khan, were present at the launch of their film's trailer in the presence of the media. While addressing the media, Babil was asked about his father and the pressure to honour his much-loved late father Irrfan. To which, Babil said that the thought 'scared' him but now he does not feel the 'pressure' at all.
"Yes, there is a lot of pressure. When we were shooting for the film two years ago the pressure would scare me. Now, the pressure doesn't scare me, but motivates me to go out there and work. The definition of pressure has changed," Babil Khan said.
When asked about the qualities of his father that he would like to imbibe, Babil was quick to say, "Whatever qualities my father had he took it with him. Now, I will explore my qualities."
Interestingly, the film's plot, which has music and creativity at its heart, is being compared to Hollywood A-lister Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning film Black Swan that had Mila Kunis as her rival in the movie.
One YT user wrote in the comments section, “Kind of reminded me of Black Swan to some extent. Not sure if anyone else got the vibes. Nonetheless, this one’s going to be an amazing one it seems. Tripti is such a beautiful girl and has an amazing career ahead. Although i am awaiting to see Babil. Just want to relive the legend “Irrfan Khan” through Babil’s eyes and hopefully he won’t disappoint (sic)." While nother said, "Not comparing at all but this gives me "Black Swan (2010)" kinda vibe and I'm all for it. 🔥." A third comment popped up, saying, "Dont complain if we get a full fledged desi black swan with some exceptional performances already being promised. Congratulations and all the best to the team!" A fourth comment read, "Love it ❤ and yes like someone else mentioned, gives slight black swan vibes."
Directed by Anvitaa Dutt, Qala and also stars Triptii Dimri, Amit Sial, and Swastika Mukherjee.
Qala’s official synopsis reads, “Set in 1940s Kolkata, Qala chronicles the complicated relationship between a young singer and her mother. Will all her sacrifices be worth the success she gets?” The film releases on Netflix on December 1, 2022.
