The tale has been modernised for the film, which is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film of the same name.

Regardless of the genre, most writers would admit that their movies start as personal projects. Pushkar-Gayathri, who are making their Hindi film debut with the ambitious Vikram Vedha starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan, are no exception. The cop-versus-gangster plot has its origins in Vikram-Betaal, as may be inferred by those who have seen the 2017 Tamil original of the same name, starring Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan.
During an interaction with Mid Day, Pushkar said that the popular legend serves as the primary inspiration for Vikram Vedha's narrative. They both grew up hearing the tales of Vikram and Betaal as children, and each time they would reflect on the numerous lessons their stories contained.
In the upcoming neo-noir thriller, which stars Khan as the diligent cop Vikram, who is on the hunt for Roshan's mobster character Vedha, the tales have once more been modernised. Each time Vedha interacts with Vikram, he tells him a narrative that makes him pause before he flees, gradually altering the cop's perception of right and wrong.
According to Gayathri, who goes on to add that the film's treatment makes references to these stories, every time the two characters clash, they are at a fork in the path. The dynamic that Vikram and Betaal shared captivated them. Therefore, they incorporated that nostalgia into these characters when they started creating the plot.
After Na Tum Jaano Na Hum Vikram Vedha (2002) would be the second time Saif and Roshan would appear together. Roshan decided to speak with an Awadhi accent because Vedha is from Kanpur. Rohit Saraf agreed to play Vedha's brother in the movie, and Radhika Apte was cast as Vikram's lawyer wife. Yogita Bihani was picked to play Chanda, and Sharib Hashmi was cast as Babloo.
The film is slated to hit the big screens on September 30, 2022.
