Diljit Dosanjh's Punjab 95 release update
Central Board of Film Certification demanded 120 cuts in Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Punjab 95. When this news hit the headlines, Jaswant Singh Khalra's wife, Paramjit Kaur, condemned CBFC's demand for 120 cuts as the biopic on her husband's life was made with the family's consent. She wanted the film to be released without any changes. According to the latest update, Punjab 95 will be released on the big screen without any cuts.
Punjab 95 to be released without any cuts?
Back in December 2024, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) brought several historians together to study the film for accuracy. A month down the line, the committee's General Secretary, Gurucharan Singh Grewal said, "I have watched the film, and it doesn’t target anyone at all. It shows the truth of Punjab in an unadulterated fashion. It’s a heart-wrenching movie. When I watched it, I had tears in my eyes."
For the uninitiated, Punjab 95 tells the life story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who uncovered mass human rights violations in the 90s and sacrificed his life for justice. Khalra's daughter, Navkiran, told Mid-Day that she is thrilled as the film will finally be released on the big screen.
"It’s a story that needs to be told, and we’re grateful. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the film releases this time," she said. Last month, it was reported that CBFC was yet to certify the Diljt Dosanjh-starrer.
"The makers are seeing some hope after the Akal Takht and SGPC have decided to watch the film. It has now reached a point that the makers are contemplating not making any cuts to the film at all, including the original 22 cuts suggested by the CBFC," a source told the tabloid.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Diljit's last theatrical release was Jatt & Juliet 3 with Neeru Bajwa. The movie was released in cinemas on June 27, 2024. The actor was also seen in Imtiaz Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila.
