A few days ago, it was reported that the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s Anjaniputra was being re-released on May 10. This was followed by the news that the actor’s Power*** was coming to theatres on May 10. The team of Power*** went one step ahead and even published an initial theatre list to prove that the re-release was definitely on. While it is not clear if both films will be back on May 10, Power*** is for sure.

Power*** to be re-released in theatres

Directed by K Madesh, Power***, which came out a decade ago, is the Kannada remake of the Mahesh Babu-led Telugu hit, Dookudu. The film brought popular Telugu music composer S Thaman to Kannada cinema, as well as actress Trisha. Thaman had got Puneeth to sing one of the film’s most popular numbers, Guruvara Sanjege.

Power*** plot

The plot revolves around an honest and straight-forward politician, Krishna (Prabhu), whose rivals attempt to kill him and his close circle in an accident. While Krishna survives, he remains comatose for years, during which time his son Bharath grows up and becomes a hot-shot police officer. When Krishna gains consciousness, the family is advised against springing any shocking news to him, so they stage circumstances that lead him to believe he’s still a politician and that Bharath has followed in his footsteps. What happens when he uncovers the truth forms the crux of the plot.

Earlier this year, Puneeth’s wife Ashwini had re-released his blockbuster film Jackie in conjunction with KRG Studios. The plan, they said, was to bring some of his biggest hits to theatres, with Appu next in line. Puneeth’s debut film as a leading man, Appu is being remastered for its impending 2025 theatrical outing.

In 2022, months after Puneeth passed away, his last commercial film, James, came to theatres and was a runaway hit, largely owing to the emotion attached to it. The makers had vowed to re-release it on subsequent birth anniversaries but have not done so yet.
