Rs 9.17 lakh disappeared from her public provident fund account
Pallavi Chatterjee – sister of Prosenjit Chatterjee – was the latest target of bank fraud. An amount of no less than Rs 9.17 lakh disappeared from her public provident fund account under the false impression that she is dead. The actress faced harassment. She is stunned at the incident.
The actress told Anandabazar Online that she has a PPF fund in the Axis Bank of the Sarat Bose Road branch. She has been keeping money in the fund for several years. Suddenly the bank told her that the account had been closed. Then the actress came to know that her money had vanished. The money has been debited claiming that the actress is dead.
Pallavi said, “I wanted to know that if I am dead then my death certificate must be produced, but where is that? The bank did not give any satisfactory answer. This is a big fraud racket going on. Such fraud takes place in an organisation controlled by the central government. It happened to me and perhaps is happening to many others, but we can not know. I could have gone to our Didi (chief minister Mamata Banerjee). But so big a fraud happening at a center-controlled organisation? I am surprised.”
In a press statement, she said, “This is to inform you that, I Ms. Pallavi Chatterjee (actor) have come across and experienced a very shocking situation recently. I have been depositing Money in PPF Account 004PPF0000000015612 via AXIS BANK LTD Sarat Bose Road Branch, Kolkata from 2016. Like every other year, this year when I went to Axis Bank Ltd to deposit a cheque for my PPF account, I was informed that my account has been closed but, they asked me to wait for 1-2 Days for them to find out the status. After 2 days my Peon had gone to enquire and got me a PPF Account Statement, given by Axis Bank Ltd where it Clearly Stated and Showed that an amount of Rs.9,17.000/ has been transferred to SB which I assume is (SAVING BANK) but, not aware of the Account Holder's Name or any Other Detailstill now 1.4.2023. On the other hand, my account has been Closed as a "DEATH CLAIM " My earnest request to all my Media Friends to inform and present this particular incident that has happened to Me does not happen to others. I am sure that, I am not the only one who has experienced such a terrible & shocking incident, I would request all of You to spread the word around and create awareness by writing about it. I must thank the Police Department ( Karaya PS) Officer in Charge Mr.Pahari. He along with his Team has started their investigation but, I have still not got any response from Axis Bank Ltd. The Branch Head of Axis Bank Itd has NOT been able to give a Clear Answer as to, Where & How has Money Disappeared and Who is Responsible ??? How can there be a DEATH CLAIM Especially when I AM STILL ALIVE? (sic).”
The actress filed a complaint at Kareya Police Station. The bank said that the money will be returned by April 16 or 17. However, the actress is doubtful whether she will get any money back.
