The film will most likely have three female leads, the cast for which has not been finalised yet.
Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee has turned heads with his look in Atanu Ghosh’s next Shesh Pata. And now, he is geared up to essay the lead role in the period drama Saajhghar helmed by Anjan Kanjilal who is awaiting the theatrical release of Sahobashe.
The film Saajghar is set in the days of the British Raj. The plot will reportedly comprise key artists from the theatre and film industries. The Robibaar actor has been signed as a significant character, both in terms of plot development and screen time.
But Chatterjee isn’t keen on letting out details about the plot as yet. The Shob Choritro Kalponik actor told ToI that his look in the film will be astonishing for his fans and film lovers. “It’s such a character from a period which anyone can relate to,” he added.

Meanwhile, he spoke about working with new filmmakers. Chatterjee said that he has known Kanjilal for a long time now and heard the script many years ago. When he heard the story, he liked it immediately, but the work on the film couldn’t be started due to the pandemic and a few other reasons. “But, now after a long time I will work with a new filmmaker,” he said, adding that he is open to working with new and upcoming filmmakers. He further shared that in the past he has worked with assistant directors who then went on to become well-known filmmakers. Prosenjit also mentioned Soumik Sen, whose first Bengali film Mahalaya was bankrolled by the actor himself.

While many details are in waiting to be revealed about Saajhghar word has it that the film will have three female leads, the casting for which is underway. Chotushkone actor Koneenica Bandopadhyay will most likely be seen in an important role. And actors from Mumbai might join the cast too, as per the daily. Anjan Kanjilal said that he had scripted the story a decade ago and had Prosenjit in mind from the very beginning. “I was convinced that whenever I do this film I will be doing it only with Prosenjit Chatterjee.” He said.
The film that will be primarily shot in and around Kolkata, has already begun its pre-production with full steam. The shoot might begin early next year.
