The Citadel star revealed that she used to get paid 90% less than her male co-stars
Of late, Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been quite vocal about Bollywood and its not-so-rosy side. During the promotion of her upcoming web series Citadel, which also stars Richard Madden, PeeCee revealed in a podcast with Dax Shepard that she quit Bollywood because she was getting sidelined.
During a recent visit to Mumbai to promote Citadel, Priyanka once again spoke about how badly she was treated in the Hindi film industry. Now, she has voiced her opinions on Bollywood once again.
During a recent interview with Film Companion, Priyanka spoke about the issue of pay parity in Bollywood, saying that regardless of the amount of good work she did, she was never paid as much as male stars. She said that the idea of equal pay was far-fetched for her.
Priyanka said this while speaking about how her agents in Hollywood approached Amazon (Citadel is releasing on Amazon Prime Video) for equal pay since she is the co-lead. The actor told her agents that she didn't think that was ever going to happen because her past experience had made her believe that a female actor would never earn as much as a male actor.
Speaking about Bollywood, Priyanka said, "I never asked for parity." She added, "I only asked for a little bit more, woh bhi nahi milta tha (even that I wouldn’t get). So, I just gave up the fight."
Priyanka reportedly revealed that she used to get paid 90% less than her male co-stars and that after over 22 years in the film industry, Citadel is the first project in which she received the same fees as her male co-star.
Citadel, a science fiction action thriller series created by David Weil, is produced by the Russo brothers. It stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Citadel agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh. The series will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting April 28.
