Citadel marks the first collaboration between Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden.
On Monday, the Russo Brothers and Priyanka Chopra Jonas showed off the trailer for their new show Citadel. The cast extensively discussed the show at a recent press conference last week. Priyanka and Richard Madden play the main characters in the spy-action series Citadel. Sister versions of the show will be made by crews from India and Italy and shot in those countries. In the Indian series that Raj and DK will be directing, Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu play the lead roles.
The show's executive producer, Anthony Russo, said at the press conference that he thinks this show is kind of capitalising on two very exciting trends that they have seen in storytelling over the past few years, namely, that they have all been developing a strong passion for narrative universes that have a sprawling expression to them, an interconnected, years-long expression to them, where characters change and morph and move between different iterations. Also, more and more movies and TV shows that aren't in English are making their way to other cultures, usually those where English is spoken more.
Priyanka continued by saying that seeing the success of subtitled work in English-speaking countries was really amazing to her as someone who worked for a very long time in a non-English medium. But she believes that this show's goal, which attracted her to it at first, is similar to the sociological experiment it purports to be. If one knows that the English-language flagship series is being made at the same time as versions in Indian and Italian, the characters and plots will inevitably come together.
Priyanka asked if that would require a region of people to watch another language. The actor then went on to ask if the viewers of the Italian show wanted to watch the Hindi show, even though their languages were very different. But she finds it so fascinating and exciting that cultures are mixing and that entertainment now reaches people from all over the world, even if they don't speak the same language. It's all about telling stories, and as a partner, Amazon excels at that. Jen's ambition to work with AGBO alone is unlike anything they have seen previously, in her opinion, as it's really cool.
Citadel will premiere on Prime Video on April 28, 2023.
