The upcoming movie, which will go on floors in August, marks his debut film as a producer
While there were several rumours that Priyadarshan would be reuniting with Mohanlal again for a sports drama this year, the filmmaker’s project put those to rest. He will be teaming up with young actors Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko and Arjun Ashokan for the first time in his career for the upcoming movie, which will also mark the veteran filmmaker’s debut as a producer.
Priyadarshan, who had previously helmed the big budget movie Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, has also scripted the upcoming venture, which will go on floors on August 1 in Ernakulam. The movie, which also has Thodupuzha as one of the locations, also has Maniyanpilla Raju as part of the cast. The yet-to-be-titled film is touted to be a thriller.
Roshan, Shine and Arjun are some of the best young talents in the Malayalam film industry right now and all three of them are packed with projects. Roshan, who shot to fame during the pandemic with films such as C U Soon, Choked, Kuruthi and Kappela, is gearing up for his Netflix film Darlings, which has Alia Bhatt in the lead. Shine Tom Chacko, who showcased stellar performances in Bheeshmaparvam and Kurup, will next be seen in Tovino Thomas’ Thallumaala.
Arjun Ashokan, meanwhile, is part of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva, in which he has worked with another veteran filmmaker – Shaji Kailas. The actor is also awaiting the release of Thattassery Kootam and was last shooting for Thrishanku, which has Anna Ben as the female protagonist.
Meanwhile, before the upcoming film, Priyadarshan is expected to wrap up shooting for the segment Olavum Theeravum from the Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. The filmmaker had already shot a featurette starring Biju Menon and Shanti Krishna for the anthology. His second segment will have Mohanlal in the lead and is also meant as a tribute to the makers of the 1970 movie of the same name.
