Amid all the hype surrounding the release of his magnum opus Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, director Priyadarshan is busy shooting for a considerably small film in Palakkad titled Appatha, which has Urvashi in the lead.

The Tamil film, which is scripted by Priyadarshan, revolves around a woman and her dog. Acclaimed cinematographer Madhu Ambat is cranking the camera for the venture, which has Pollachi as its main location.

The team recently began filming in the director’s favourite location at the Muthalamada railway station in Palakkad where he had earlier shot scenes in movies such as Megham and Vettam. Appatha also marks Urvashi’s 700th movie and her first collaboration with Priyadarshan in 28 years, after the Mohanlal-starrer Mithunam.

The director in a recent interview stated that it’s a small film and its script is what had urged him to do the movie. Since Marakkar’s release was stalled in March 2020, the director had completed shooting for Hungama 2, a segment in the Netflix anthology Navarasa and another featurette in the upcoming Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. The director is also rumoured to helm one more segment in the anthology with Mohanlal that will be based on Olavum Theeravum.

Meanwhile, Urvashi, who was last seen in Mollywood in Varane Avashyamund has also signed debutante Ramya Aravind’s Oru Policekarante Maranam, in which she will be playing a crime branch officer along with Soubin Shahir. She will next be seen playing Dileep’s pair in Kesu Ee Veedinte Nadhan. The Nadhirshah directorial is rumoured to be a direct-to-OTT release this December.
