Speaking at the Bengaluru promotional tour of Kaduva, the Malayalam superstar said that the shooting schedule of Aadujeevitham prevented him from dubbing for his role.
Malayalam actor-director-producer Prithviraj Sukumaran was in Bengaluru on Friday to promote his next release, Kaduva, which is getting a theatrical outing with a Kannada version on June 30. But although Kaduva has been dubbed in Kannada, audiences of that version will not get to hear Prithviraj’s voice, which was pointed out during the press briefing. When asked why he had not made the effort, considering that even biggies like Ram Charan and NTR Jr had done it for RRR, Prithviraj said that it was his wish to dub in Kannada, but that his schedule did not permit him.
“I really wanted to dub for my characters in Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva, especially the latter, because of the wide release that we are doing for it. Every other language that I have done to date, I have dubbed for myself, be it Tamil, Telugu or Hindi. I would absolutely love to pick up the language and dub in Kannada. Unfortunately, I was away shooting for a very big film for three and a half months in Algeria and Jordan. So, I couldn’t find time to dub for Kaduva in any of the other languages. Even in Tamil and Telugu, which are languages that I know, I couldn’t do it because I was away and we had this release deadline to meet. But it’s a very good point. I believe that down the line, as actors, we will have to make that effort to learn the language and dub in our own voices, if we want to genuinely bring legitimate dubbed versions of our films. Your voice is as much a part of your performance as what you see onscreen,” said Prithviraj.
Jointly produced by Prithviraj and Listing Stephen of Magic Frames, the action entertainer Kaduva has been directed by Shaji Kailas and marks the veteran filmmaker’s return to Malayalam cinema in almost a decade.
