The movie, directed by Dijo Jose Antony, is among the highest grossers in Malayalam this year
After finding itself among the highest grossers in Malayalam this year, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu’s Jana Gana Mana is set to drop on Netflix soon. The Dijo Jose Antony directorial, which hit cinema halls worldwide on April 28, will reportedly release on the streaming platform on June 2.
The movie, which marked Prithviraj’s first theatrical release since the pandemic, had been running to packed houses even after its third weekend. Jana Gana Mana was also Prithviraj’s biggest release outside Kerala, with it getting the maximum shows in the Middle East.
The socio-political thriller has Prithviraj playing a former IPS officer and lawyer who fights a legal case against a police officer. Suraj plays the role of ACP Sajjan, who has been accused of violating human rights after culprits, who have been accused of rape and murder of a college lecturer, are killed during an encounter.
The movie also has Mamta Mohandas, Dhruvan, Shari, Vincy Aloshius and Vaishnavi in pivotal roles. Sharis Muhammed has scripted the film, which is inspired from true events. The makers are also planning a sequel to the film, which will focus on the life of Prithviraj’s character Aravind Swaminathan and his past.
While Jana Gana Mana had a few portions in the end that showed glimpses of how Aravind went from a respected cop to a tainted officer, who was imprisoned for his actions, the sequel would delve deeper in to his story as well as his character’s connection to ACP Sajjan and the politicians that drive the plot of the movie.
Jana Gana Mana was also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada as Jana 2022. These versions are also expected to stream on the OTT platform. The movie is co-produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames.
