After their superhit film Driving License, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu are gearing up for the release of his next, Jana Gana Mana. The socio-political entertainer, directed by Dijo Jose Antony, will hit theatres worldwide on April 28.

The film also marks Prithviraj’s first theatrical release since the pandemic. In the past year, he was part of Cold Case, Kuruthi, Bhramam and Bro Daddy – all of which were direct-to-OTT releases. Incidentally, the actor also revealed that while several OTT platforms had approached him for the streaming rights of the film, he said he wanted the movie to release in theatres first.

At a press meet held in Kochi ahead of the film’s release, the makers revealed that the movie will be streaming on Netflix, but 40 days after its theatrical release on April 28. Incidentally, it’s the first time that Netflix has bagged the rights for a Prithviraj film post pandemic. While Bro Daddy had been released on Disney+ Hotstar, the other three films had premiered on Amazon Prime Video.

Jana Gana Mana, which also has Mamta Mohandas, Dhruvan, Vincy Aloshius and Shari, will be released in four languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. The film has been titled Jana 2022 in the other three languages.

The movie, which began shooting in October 2020 and wrapped up production only in January 2022, had been shot in four States. Prithviraj also said that the movie is the biggest film that both Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames have produced yet, not in terms of its scale and budget, but because of its subject. “It’s an out-and-out commercial entertainer that will make the audience contemplate and ask questions. As a producer, I am proud to back the film,” he said, at a trailer release event at a mall in Kochi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj will be busy with Aadujeevitham till June 2022 and will begin work on his next projects – Kappa and Vilayathu Buddha – after he returns.
