Those waiting for Prithviraj Sukumaran to share an update on Empuraan on Mohanlal’s birthday on May 21, got another surprise instead, at midnight. The Lucifer actor-director shared a director’s cut of the theme song of their latest collaboration Bro Daddy.

Wishing Mohanlal on his birthday, Prithviraj shared the fun theme song with visuals from the movie, which released on Disney+ Hotstar in January this year. Bro Daddy was Prithviraj’s second directorial and again had Mohanlal in the lead. It was also the first time that the duo got to share such a lengthy screen time together. Though Lucifer too had Prithviraj, the actor was part of the movie in an extended cameo.

Fans of both actors are still hoping that an Empuraan update is on the way. In April, before Prithviraj left for Aadujeevitham, he had said that the first half of the Lucifer sequel has been locked and that the film’s scriptwriter Murali Gopy will be with him in Jordan to complete the second half.

The actor is expected to begin work on Empuraan only in 2023. While he has several movies coming up next – including Venu’s Kaapa, S Mahesh’s period thriller Kaaliyan and Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha, Prithviraj said Empuraan is definitely “a priority” but it needs time to set up as well as shoot. The actor is also part of Prashanth Neel’s Salaar.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal, who has been busy with his own directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure for most of the year, will have back-to-back schedules outside India in the coming months. He will mostly begin with completing Barroz’s remaining portions in Portugal and Malaysia, before heading to the Middle East and Europe to resume shooting for Jeethu Joseph’s action-thriller Ram.

Mohanlal’s latest release 12th Man is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The mystery whodunit film also has Unni Mukundan, Sshivada, Anusree and Chandunath as part of its cast.
