Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who had undergone a key-hole surgery after suffering a ligament tear, took to his social media page on Tuesday to share an update. The actor, who had undergone the procedure at a private hospital in Kochi, confirmed that he has been advised rest for the next few months as well.

Prithviraj had been shooting for Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha for the past week. The actor suffered a ligament tear on his leg after falling on his knee during an action scene on Sunday. He was shifted to Kochi from Marayoor, where the team was shooting for the final few scenes of the movie, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel.

In his social media post on Tuesday, Prithviraj wrote that he’s currently recouping after the surgery. “It’s rest and physiotherapy ahead for a couple of months,” he said, adding that he hopes to use the time constructively and “promise to fight through the pain to recover fully”.

The actor has reportedly been advised almost two months of rest by the doctors. Prithviraj is expected to wrap up the shoot of Vilayath Buddha, which has only another day’s shoot left. He is then set to begin the shoot of L2: Empuraan, his directorial. While the plan was to start Empuraan by August, it could be delayed by a few weeks.

Prithviraj had previously completed the recce for the big budget second instalment of the Lucifer franchise, starring Mohanlal and himself. The actor is also part of three big films in other languages including Prashanth Neel’s Prabhas-starrer Salaar, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan and Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut Bollywood film that also has Kajol as part of the cast.

In Malayalam, Prithviraj is also set to begin the shoot of Kaaliyan later this year. It remains to be seen how his directorial and acting projects will be scheduled now, but rest assured the actor is expected to be involved in the discussions with his team for both L2: Empuraan and Tyson, which is scheduled to go on floors in 2024, during the next few weeks.
