The Malayalam OTT platform aims to provide opportunities to newcomers to showcase their work,
This Sunday saw the launch of another OTT platform that will cater to the Malayalam audience, albeit with a difference. The new OTT platform called Matinee was launched on Sunday by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The minds behind the idea are project designer NM Badusha and producer Shinoy Mathew. In a press meet held last week in Ernakulam, Badusha said, “Our main aim is to help people who want to come to the film industry – be it directors, actors or scriptwriters. Through this platform, we will be able to bring more people to the industry.”
Further elaborating on the concept of Matinee and what it tries to achieve, Shinoy said that cinema is a dream big for a lot of people, but most often people don’t know whom to contact. “Only those who have networks within the industry are able to get in. So, our attempt is to connect such people and that’s how the idea of Matinee was formed. Also, everybody wants to give opportunities to newcomers but that isn’t put into practice because we don’t know if the newcomers are as good as the established artistes and also because of the market viability. So, we wanted a space where they can feel safe,” he said, adding that Matinee would provide such a platform for debutants to showcase their work.
Prithviraj, who virtually inaugurated the platform that is currently only available on web, said, “OTT platforms will be increasingly influencing that viewing experience of the audience. A major breakthrough in the OTTs that I will be following will be ones producing their own content and I wish all the best to Matinee, which will be making its first steps in that regard.”
