Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran on Sunday suffered an injury while shooting for his upcoming movie Vilayath Buddha. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Kochi, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday. The hospital has not yet provided an official update on his condition.

Due to the nature of the injury, it is anticipated that Prithviraj may need to take a break from work for approximately 2 to 3 months in order to fully recover.

On the career front, Prithviraj had a slew of releases last year but not all of them managed to click with the audience and critics. While Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva were big commercial hits, Theerppu, Gold and Kaapa were both critical and commercial disasters.

Prithviraj has a slew of movies in the works. Earlier, he made headlines after the trailer of his upcoming movie Aadujeevitham leaked online before its scheduled release in India. However, Prithviraj dismissed the term "leak" and preferred "unintentional release" while reacting to the incident that outed the trailer much before its intended release.

"Yes, the “release” was unintentional. No, it wasn’t meant to be “leaked” online. The #AADUJEEVITHAM, The GOAT LIFE (unfinished, work in progress) trailer meant exclusively for various festivals around the world. Hope you like what you see," he tweeted.

Written and directed by Blessy, Aadujeevitham is an ambitious film both in terms of scope and scale. Based on the novel of the same name, the movie tells the tale of a man, who survives injuries, thirst, hunger, exhaustion and senseless hate while trying to get out of a desert.

Prithviraj had undergone a drastic transformation for this movie. He lost over 25 kg of body weight to play the character of Najeeb.

Prithviraj has also played a key role in Salaar, a big-budget movie, starring Prabhas in the lead role. Written and directed by Prashanth Neel, the movie is due to arrive in cinemas in September.
