Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi has a knack for going deep into ancient Indian history to give honour to its many heroes, from Chanakya (1991) to Mrityunjay (1996). Prithviraj in which Akshay Kumar plays the Chahamana dynasty's leader, promises to be no different. According to the director, putting the narrative of the 12th-century warrior king on the big screen has long been an ambition of his.

Prithviraj is a project that Dwivedi has always wanted to work on. For the past 18 years, he has been living with this story. Because of the significant amount of study work that it required before the filmmaker even started to produce a film, it's a script that he has nursed for a long time. To be accurate, the final research for the film took roughly six months for him to be completely confident that every piece of information had been double-checked.

Any historical drama needs to be authentic. Dwivedi spent years researching the period, reading innumerable books to obtain an understanding of the clothing, language, and buildings in use at the time. Dwivedi studied literature like Roshen Alkazi's Ancient and Medieval Indian Costume Pushpa Mathur's Costumes of the Rulers of Mewar, and Naveen Patnaik's A Desert Kingdom before starting to develop the film's setting.

According to reports, the plot is based on the poet Chand Bardai's epic Prithviraj Raso. Dwivedi researched several books on his life to guarantee that they were doing honour to Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in their film. As a writer and filmmaker, he is grateful that he waited this long to realise his ambition. The filmmaker thinks their film is an appropriate homage to Prithviraj's bravery and magnanimity.

Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar makes her Bollywood debut in the historical drama, which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood. Prithviraj is slated for release in June this year.
