Prithviraj confirms Bhramam will release on Amazon Prime Video in India and in theatres in the Gulf

While it was rumoured that Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bhramam has been eyeing a direct-to-OTT release, the superstar recently confirmed in an interview that the movie will release in both theatres and streaming services.

Talking to actor and RJ Mithun Ramesh in a radio interview in Dubai, Prithviraj said that his next release will be Bhramam, which is the Malayalam remake of Ayushmann Khurrana’s Andhadhun. “What’s interesting about the film is that it will be a theatrical release in GCC countries and on the same day, for the rest of territories, it will be an OTT release on Amazon,” he said, adding that in essence people can choose where to watch the movie as it is available on multiple platforms.

The actor also said that the phenomenon of same-day release has been happening for some time in the West. “It’s an interesting future, not just for Malayalam cinema, but for the industry itself,” he said.

Prithviraj also spoke of how OTTs have helped keep the industry moving when the pandemic brought everything to a standstill. Streaming services ensured that the industry started working with people making films and also providing employment to those in the cine sector. The Bro Daddy director also said that he is looking forward to a time when it’s safe for the audience to watch films in theatres.

The actor also said that his directorial Bro Daddy, which has Mohanlal in the lead, is made for theatres. “But it’s not in our control,” he said.

Bhramam, which is directed by Ravi K Chandran, also has Mamta Mohandas, Unni Mukundan, Shankar and Rashi Khanna as part of the cast. The movie’s release date is yet to be announced.
