The movie, directed by Ravi K Chandran, is slated to release directly on OTT in India
Prithviraj Sukumaran fans residing in select countries will be able to watch the star’s Bhramam, a day ahead of its OTT release in India. The makers recently announced the theatrical release dates of the Malayalam remake of Andhadhun, directed by Ravi K Chandran.
While the movie will release on October 7 in India on Amazon Prime Video, the producers have opted to release the black comedy-thriller in theatres in other parts of the world. The film will release on October 6 in the USA, Canada, UAE and other GCC countries, while it will hit theatres in Singapore, the UK and Australia on October 7.
This is the first time that a Malayalam film is releasing simultaneously on both OTTs and theatres on the same day. Piracy could also be another reason why the makers have decided to release the much-anticipated movie in theatres in certain countries a day ahead of its India release.
The movie’s director Ravi K Chandran, in an earlier interview, had told us that he was delighted about what the OTTs have achieved for Malayalam cinema.
“OTTs like Amazon Prime Video have opened up a big avenue for Malayalam cinema. In the North, people are looking at Malayalam cinema like how we used to view Iranian cinema in terms of the riveting content and novel way of telling stories. That is a big boon. Earlier, really good movies would be made in Malayalam but very few would watch it outside Kerala. But OTTs have completely changed the game. For instance, when Angamaly Diaries released, not many watched it outside Kerala but during the pandemic, people started watching it. A lot of my friends asked me to send them a list of Malayalam films that they should watch. So, many filmmakers are now watching Malayalam films. It gives a bigger edge to the industry and I consider myself fortunate to be part of this zone right now,” he said.
