Starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Rahman, director Nirmal Sahadev’s Ranam was released in 2018. Although the movie received lukewarm response at the box office initially, its songs and treatment earned a lot of attention later on. Now the director has taken to his Instagram account to share a photo of Prithviraj, hinting at a sequel to the film. Earlier, the actor also posted a still of Ranam on his social media page, and captioned it, “I will be back”.

Ranam narrates a story about Detroit, which was once the economic capital of the US, but later turned into a hub of drugs and guns. Prithviraj’s character Aadhi is a Malayali in a crime gang led by Damodar (Rahman), a Srilankan Tamilian. The movie had similarities with Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive that featured Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan as leads.

Ranam was a technically sound film, boasting Jigme Tenzing’s camera work and Sreejith Sarang’s editing, while the music and background score was done by Jakes Bejoy. After Ranam Nirmal helmed Kumari, a horror fantasy film, starring Aishwarya Lekshmi. It got a decent response at the theatres. The film was bankrolled by Prithviraj Productions, along with Jakes and the director himself.

Prithviraj is currently recovering from an accident that took place on the set of Jayan Nambiar’s Vilayath Buddha. He sustained an injury in his leg, following which he underwent a surgery and was advised to take rest for six weeks. According to the filmmaker, the actor got injured while he was exiting a bus. He was immediately admitted to a hospital in Ernakulam, where he underwent the surgery. Prithviraj’s last theatrical release was Kaduva, directed by Shaji Kailas, which is said to have earned more than ₹50 crore at the box office.

The actor’s upcoming projects include Salaar in which he shares screen space with Prabhas. Salaar promises to be an action film, also starring Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu. The film is helmed by Prashanth Neel, who is best known for the Yash-starrer KGF. In fact, K.G.F: Chapter 2 earned over ₹1,000 crore worldwide.
