If 2022's Elvis was about Elvis Presley's life, the rise to fame, the women, drugs, alcohol and eventual death, Priscilla is about the young girl he married and their relationship dynamics
Priscilla, the acclaimed biopic drama by director Sofia Coppola about the young girl who caught the King of Rock & Roll Elvis Presley’s eye, married and had his only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, is headed to OTT. Headlined by Cailey Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, the film, which hit theatres in November, will be available to stream on Mubi from March 1, 2024. This streaming partnership makes the film available in India and Ireland.

According to the official synopsis of Priscilla, the film follows how when teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
If 2022’s Elvis took a deep dive into the life of the singing sensation, his rise to fame, the alcohol, drugs and girls, where Priscilla also gets a fleeting mention, Sofia’s film looks at how the 14-year-old was groomed into a relationship with the wildly womanizing musician. The film is based on Priscilla’s memoir, Elvis and Me, and explores how she comes to terms with his erratic ways.
During its theatrical run, Priscilla had received widely positive reviews, with many pointing out how Sofia presents Elvis as a darker version than Austin Butler did in Baz Luhrman’s film. Yes, Elvis is actively grooming a 14 year old child, but it’s never about making him out to be a predator. It’s about how she goes out of her way to shape herself as Elvis’ ideal woman.
