The final gameweek will decide the champions, who qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League for next season.
The Premier League is arguably the most intense and competitive league in the world of football and it also has the biggest viewership across the globe. As this season’s final gameweek inches closer, a lot of things will go down to the wire, and Indian fans need not worry about missing out on any important score as they can stream all the matches live on OTT as well.
This season’s competition saw Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool go toe to toe for the title race yet again. The blue side of Manchester currently sit on top of the tree as we head to the final gameweek, with the red side from Liverpool only one point behind the defending champions.
Manchester City will face Aston Villa while Liverpool will face Wolves. A Manchester City win against the Villans will confirm their second Premier League title in two years. On the other hand, Steven Gerrard, a living Liverpool legend is at the helm of Aston Villa and could secure the title for Liverpool by beating City, something he could not do as a player for the club. But Liverpool will have to beat Wolves, who are coming to the final gameweek at the back of a lacklustre run.
This season will also see the final gameweek decide who qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League for next season.
Tottenham Hotspur have held the final qualification spot for the Champions League and are heading to the final gameweek, where they will face bottom of the table side Norwich City, who have confirmed relegation. However, nothing is confirmed for Spurs, with North London rivals Arsenal sitting behind them, only two points behind. A Spurs win will take them to the Champions League, making Arsenal’s result against Everton redundant, and taking them to the UEFA Europa League. This would mean that Arsenal will miss out on a Champions League spot once again, having played it in the 2016-17 season.
A lot rides on Manchester United and West Ham as well as we head to the final gameweek. A win against Crystal Palance would confirm the Red Devils’ UEFA Europa League birth, putting West Ham in the UEFA Europa Conference League, which is only one season old. However, if the Hammers beat Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion and United fail to secure three points, West Ham will play the Europa League, forcing the red side of Manchester to play in the Conference League.
Now we go down to the bottom of the table, where Burnley and Leeds United have everything on the line. Both the clubs are on 35 points heading to the final gameweek where Burnley and Leeds play Newcastle United and newly promoted Brentford respectively. If either one of the teams slip up, it will remain in the Premier League for next season while the other team drops to the Championship, the second division of English football. However, if both teams fail to put points on the board, Burnley will stay up. Norwich City and Watford have already confirmed relegation.
To make matters more interesting, gameweek 38 will also decide the Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Best Playmaker awards. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Son Heung-Min (Spurs) lead the race heading to the final game with 22 and 21 goals, respectively. Both Alisson Becker (Liverpool) and Ederson (Manchester City) are tied on 20 clean sheets for the season, heading to gameweek 38. In the race to be the best playmaker of the league this season, Salah once again leads with 13 assists, while Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold is second with 12 assists. All three of these individual awards will also be decided tonight after the final gameweek of the season.
All 10 games will kick-off at 8:30 PM IST tonight, as it traditionally does. Select games will be telecast on television in the country and all of the 10 games can be streamed live on OTT. Indian fans can watch all games from the final gameweek live on Disney+ Hotstar.
