Naa Ninna Mareyalaare
Dr. Rajkumar wasn't just an actor and superstar for the masses but also a huge trendsetter who exuded tremendous style and class. One such glorious trendsetting moment came about through the 1976 film Naa Ninna Mareyalare wherein he plays the part of a motorcycle racing champion. Aside from being an engaging drama that also stars Lakshmi, Leelavathi, Lokanath and others, the film is fondly remembered even today for popularizing the Jawa motorcycle. Reportedly, the climax sequence of this all-time blockbuster was recently used as part of the promotional strategy of a major automotive company.
Bhakta Prahlada
Director Vijay and Dr. Rajkumar have collaborated on a number of cult classics and one of them is the 1983 mythological film Bhakta Prahlada. One of the very few films wherein the Matinee Idol played a grey-shaded role as Hiranyakashipu, the film is etched forever in the memory of the Kannada audience for featuring both Dr. Raj and his youngest son Puneeth Rajkumar together, with the latter playing the titular role. T.G. Lingappa's music, too, was a huge hit among the audience.
Naagarahaavu
Puttanna Kanagal's seminal film, starring Vishnuvardhan, Aarathi, Shubha, Ambareesh and others, is a masterclass on heightened drama and the film is still regarded as the master filmmaker's most involved and daring endeavours. Be it the themes it tackles or the super staging with which the scenes are executed, Naagarahaavu has withstood the test of time and found new legions of fans over the years.
Premaloka
The 1980s saw the all-round talent of Ravichandran thrive and one of the main illustrations of this is the 1987 romantic musical Premaloka. The vivacious Bollywood queen Juhi Chawla would make her Kannada debut with the film and her on-screen pairing with Ravichandran would become one of the highlights of the experience. The blockbuster is still regarded as a major trendsetter in Kannada cinema with Hamsalekha's iconic soundtrack, too, finding itself cult status.
