Television’s popular actor Pratik Sen has paired up with Debchandrima Singha Roy in his new television serial Shaheber Chithi that has started on Star Jalsa and will be available on Disney+ Hotstar. While Pratik has just finished working in Mohor with Sonamoni Saha, Derbchandrima became a household name with her serial Sanjher Baati.

In Shaheber Chithi, Pratik plays a character of a superstar who lost his leg after a massive accident. In an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, the actor said that to rehearse the disability, he started to use a crutch at home but had to give up because of his mother’s disapproval. He then added that he has worked on the character on the sets.

While Pratik has become a household name with his superhit serials, Khokababu with Trina Saha, and Mohor with Sonamoni, the actor has so far received a lukewarm response for his films, including Atithi, Chol Kuntal, etc. In the interview, he said that he did not get enough exposure to films. He also pointed out that the commercial side of the Bengali film industry is currently suffering. “Bengali filmmakers want to be like Satyajit Ray, but no one wants to make films like Tarun Majumder,” he said. He said that no one is making a film like Deya-Neya or Ogo Bodhu Sundari. Talking about the commercial success of the film he said people’s appreciation plays a key role in recognition of the art form. He pointed out that in Bengal, that is not happening, while films like RRR and KGF 2 are raking moolahs at the box office. “Some sporadic hits like an Aparajito or a Belashuru cannot run the industry alone,” the actor said, adding that the industry needs more such films. He further added that the dynamics in the industry are in a messed-up situation. A certain amount of mutual respect between producers, actors and directors can improve the situation.

Pratik also said that he is looking forward to getting a good role on the big screen. However, he does not intend to work on five films a year. He would rather work on one film and that should be a blockbuster.
