Pratik Gandhi reveals he was 'outright' rejected for TV - 'My appearance didn't work for them, their idea...'

Pratik Gandhi recently recalled the time he ventured into the acting space. The actor revealed he was judged for appearance and got rejected for the TV medium.

Pratik Gandhi rose to fame with Scam 1992 in the Hindi entertainment industry. Before he ventured into Bollywood, Pratik was doing well in Gujarati theatre and films. Not many know that the actor also worked as a freelance mechanical engineer before becoming an actor. Recently, in an interview with Indian Express, Pratik said the phase when he shifted to Mumbai from Surat taught him a lot of things. However, things weren't easy for Gandhi as he initially faced rejection.

Pratik Gandhi on being 'rejected' for TV

Pratik Gandhi went down memory lane and recalled his initial days in Mumbai. The actor revealed he was directly rejected for television as his appearance didn't work for the makers.

"TV was the biggest medium and a lot of series were being made. I thought, somewhere I’ll fit. I kept giving auditions. And TV rejected me outright. Their idea of having an actor on a television show was a little different. My appearance didn’t work for them," he said.

The actor mentioned that the makers were looking at a certain kind of physique and skin colour. In one audition, Pratik was told that they wouldn't be able to show him as a rich man. "And I was thinking to myself, if somebody can comment on my acting skills, I can still work on it. But how do I work on that? So I actually laughed at it," added Gandhi.

When Pratik Gandhi was asked about an important thing to remember upon achieving success, the actor said that 'nothing is permanent'. The actor believes the applause of today may not be there tomorrow. He also feels that today's criticism may convert to praise tomorrow.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Pratik was recently seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar. The actor shared screen space with Vidya Balan, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Ileana D'Cruz in the movie. It hit the silver screen on April 19 and clashed with Dibakar Banerjee's LSD 2. Helmed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta, the film made Rs 1.40 crore in two days.
