Salaar is going strong at the Telangana box office, but that is not the case in Andhra Pradesh. Read on to find out more...
Prabhas' Salaar, undoubtedly, was one of the most-awaited films in the country. It was finally released in theatres on December 22, 2023, with a bang. Salaar has become the biggest hit of 2023 in Telugu cinema and has crossed the collections of Chiranjeevi's Waltair Veerayya, which had made Rs 120 crore in Telugu states.
Director Prashanth Neel's film has so far earned Rs 124 crore but is far from being in the profit zone. We have now come to know that Salaar has just passed the break-even point in Telangana. The makers of Pushpa, Mythri Movie Makers, distributed the film in Telangana, and the pre-release business was locked for Rs 65 crore. Salaar has made Rs 67 crore so far and whatever it makes from now on will be a profit for the distributors.
But that is not the case in Andhra Pradesh. As the ticket prices were not hiked much in Telangana, Salaar is yet to hit the breakeven mark in Andhra Pradesh. One trade expert says that Salaar will surely see losses of around 10%-15%. The pre-release business was locked at Rs 55 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Salaar has managed to only cross the Rs 40 crore mark.
As there are not many big Telugu films releasing this week, Salaar has no competition at the box office and can have a free run. But since the makers of the film did not indulge in any post-release promotions, occupancy is falling with each passing day. So, we need to see how much Salaar will make in the days to come.
The case is the same in Hindi states as well, where the film has been released in Hindi. If the makers had promoted the film aggressively, the collections would have been better. On the other hand, fans of Prabhas are happy that their star hero has scored a hit after a long gap and now the wait is on for the second part of Salaar.
For now, all eyes are on Prabhas' next project with director Maruthi. The title and first look will be out on January 5, 2024. Watch this space for more updates on this project.
