Telugu superstar Prabhas' latest film Salaar seems to have struck a rich vein with the masses at the Tamil Nadu box office. The film has emerged as the top choice for moviegoers in the state, and it seems to be cashing in on the extended holiday weekend, outearning Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie Dunki.

As per the latest reports, Salaar has earned nearly Rs 13 crore during the first three days of its release in Tamil Nadu and it's expected to cross the Rs 15 crore mark by the end of Monday, which is a holiday for Christmas. This kind of performance for this film is significant considering that historically the audiences in Tamil Nadu take a very cautious approach while watching movies of other languages. Only good reviews and excellent word-of-mouth for movies from other states can bring in the crowd at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Tamil Nadu has witnessed only a few non-Tamil movies making an impact at the box office, such as the Baahubali films and Yash's KGF series. Salaar, being a collaboration between the teams behind these blockbuster films (with Prabhas from Baahubali and Prashanth Neel, the writer, and director of KGF), has enjoyed a promising start in theatres across the state. Despite receiving mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, the film continues to perform well at the box office.

In the meantime, Dunki also showed strong signs of growth at the Tamil Nadu box office during its four-day extended weekend by grossing nearly Rs 10 crore. The film is also expected to benefit from the holiday with not too many new Tamil releases available in cinemas.

Shah Rukh Khan enjoys a significant fan following among the movie buffs in Tamil Nadu, compared to other stars of the Bollywood fraternity. His last film Jawan, which was written and directed by Atlee, sold more than Rs 40 crore worth of tickets in Tamil Nadu alone.

While Salaar has grossed more than Rs 300 crore, averaging Rs 100 crore per day, in its worldwide ticket sales, Dunki has earned over Rs 211 crore within the initial four days of its release.
