Nag Ashwin on Project K

Nag Ashwin is easily among the most promising, emerging filmmakers in Telugu cinema with quality works like Yevade Subrahmanyam and Mahanati to his credit. However, the biggest test in his career will be his next, Project K, a sci-fi film starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Produced under Vyjayanthi Movies, the film is being made on a budget of over Rs 300-350 crore. Fans of Baahubali star Prabhas are especially curious about how this uncoventional actor-director combo would work out.

Project K commenced its filming in late 2021 and ever since, director Nag Ashwin has been flooded with requests from Prabhas fans about the possibility of releasing the actor's first look or a glimpse. When one such fan had sarcastically asked Nag Ashwin today if he even remembers them, the latter responded, "Yes, I do remember. We've just completed one schedule including Prabhas' introduction portions. He looks very cool. We will resume shoot in June again. Ours is the last film among Prabhas' upcoming projects that will hit theatres. It will take a while for you to expect frequent updates. Rest assured, we're giving it everything for Project K."

Prabhas has many films lining up for release. While the first one to hit theatres is Adi Purush for Sankranti 2023, it will be followed by Prashanth Neel's action saga Salaar, after which the star will commence shooting for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit (where he plays a cop). The actor has allocated bulk dates for Project K given the scale at which it is being made and the effort it demands. Veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao's presence as a mentor is expected to add additional value to the credibility of the team's efforts.

The director of Project K recently tied up with the Mahindra Group for the shoot, requesting help from the firm in relation to futuristic automobiles and the technology that the film requires. Nag Ashwin was also in the news in 2021 for Netflix's Pitta Kathalu, in which he directed a short featuring Sanjith Hegde and Shruti Haasan. Besides, he also produced one of Telugu cinema's major hits the same year, Jathi Ratnalu starring Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna.
