The song, written by filmmaker Pavan Wadeyar, has music by D Imman and was meant to be part of Natasaarvabhowma.
Puneeth Rajkumar was, no doubt, one of the best dancers in Kannada cinema and most filmmakers who’ve worked with him made sure to highlight that in their films. They’d get the actor to burn up the dance floor with relatively difficult signature hook steps that he’d make look like cakewalk. And this is exactly what filmmaker Pavan Wadeyar has highlighted in the tribute song Powerism that he released today.
The song, which Pavan had mooted during the making of Natasaarvabhowma with Puneeth, was meant to be an introduction song that put the focus on the immense popularity that the actor enjoyed among his fans. Written by Pavan, the lyrics of the song included the names of the films Puneeth had been a part of until Natasaarvabhowma, but the actor thought that such self-praise was not called for. In the end, the song was not included in the film.
In the run-up to the late actor’s birthday on Thursday, though, Pavan thought it appropriate to release an updated version of the song, to include his films after Natasaarvabhowma too. Pavan has been quoted as saying that he decided to give the song a new look after he’d mentioned it at some public event earlier and fans then asked him to release the final version.
With music by D Imman and sung by Shree Harsha, the video of Powerism – The Power Anthem includes visuals from several Puneeth films, with the focus squarely on his impeccable dancing skill. Pavan has said that there couldn’t be a better tribute for a man who has a crazy cult following and commands so much love among fans.
Meanwhile, also out today is a tribute song by music director Sridhar V Sambhram, which highlights Puneeth the generous and loving human being and not his star persona, which has been written by filmmaker Kantha Kannalli and sung by Sonu Nigam, Vijay Prakash, Kailash Kher and Shankar Mahadevan.
