Even though When The Phone Rings ended in the first week of January 2025, the Netflix thriller K-drama is still receiving a lot of love and attention. The story of Chae Soo-bin's Hong Hee-joo and Yoo Yeon-seok's Paik Sa-eon won the hearts of fans. Post the success of the drama, the male lead, Yoo Yeon-seok opened up about his marriage plans, future projects, his career, and more.

In an interview at Starship Entertainment’s headquarters in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, Yoo Yeon-seok revealed the qualities he seeks in his future wife. Inspired by his character, the husband to a mute wife, the actor emphasized the importance of communication.
He added, “I don’t think I’m someone who hasn’t thought about marriage. I believe it’s important to be with someone you can communicate well with. This project made me realise even more how crucial communication is. It's essential to have someone you can easily talk to, and I want to marry someone with whom I can enjoy meaningful conversations and have fun."

How did Yoo Yeon-seok land his Paik Sa-eon role?
In an interview with iMBC, When The Phone Rings writer, Kim Ji-woon opened up about the casting deets and recalled how she was impressed by Yoo Yeon-seok’s performance in the 2023 JTBC drama The Interest of Love. She further added that Yeok-seok is “incredibly good at controlling intensity" and hence, he was a fit choice for the role in When The Phone Rings.

Speaking about his future projects, Yeon-seok said that he wants to explore genres he has not tried before, and one of those is comedy. Meanwhile, his upcoming film, God and Law Office, is a human comedy, and he is looking forward to it.
Meanwhile, When The Phone Rings has 12 episodes in total and all are streaming on Netflix. The series follows a young politician and his sign-language interpreter wife whose lives are turned upside down by a kidnapping. It explores the themes of trauma, interpersonal struggles, and the effects of a strained marriage.
