The actress thanked the film's director Mani Ratnam for making her dream of playing a princess come true
Actress Trisha, who plays Princess Kundavai in the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I, revealed recently that it was always her dream to play a princess in a film. The actress spilled the beans while talking at the audio and trailer launch of the film, which was held in Chennai recently. "I always wanted to play a princess and I need to thank Mani sir for making my dream come true." The actress further revealed that she had to really work hard for character Princess Kundavai. "We had a great team and when Mani sir is on board, you need not even ask about it. We had a lot of stylists and many makeup and look tests done for our characters. We did a lot of rehearsals and homework. Because of the extensive rehearsals, the actual shoot turned out to be easy. I really worked hard to play Kundavai, especially for Sentamizh."
Trisha, who looked regal in a pink sari, said that she had never been to any event of that stature after the pandemic and that she was really looking forward to it and spending time with the Ponniyin Selvan team and the chief guests, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan and Superstar Rajinikanth. Talking about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays Queen Nandini in the film, who has her eyes on the Chola throne, Trisha said, "Ash is so beautiful, inside and outside. The face-offs between Kundavai and Nandini are one of the highlights in Ponniyin Selvan. More than Trisha and Ash, we were Kundavai and Nandini on the set.
Ponniyin Selvan is an adaptation of the epic novel penned by novelist Kalki Krishnamurthy. Princess Kundavai was the only daughter of the Chola King Parantaka II. She had an elder brother Aditha Karikalan (played by Vikram) and a younger brother Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi). She married Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan (Karthi), a member of the Bana dynasty and the commander of the Chola Army.
