The veteran actor was talking at the latest pre-release press meet of the film
Parthiban in Ponniyin Selvan; Dhanush in Naane Varuvean
The lead actors of Ponniyin Selvan, including Vikram, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi, returned back to Chennai the other day after wrapping up promotional activities in other states. They participated in the last pre-release press meet today in Chennai along with a few other actors as well.
Parthiban, who is known for his intelligent wordplay and witty one-liners, turned many heads while talking at the promotional activity. He began his short speech by saying that he wasn't sure of attending the event as his plan was to head to Thanjavur. He had earlier informed through a social media post that he would be watching the movie in the royal city of Cholas.
However, he uttered the lines 'Naane Varuvean' (Dhanush's latest film) twice in his speech to entertain the crowd. The video has been doing the rounds on social media and many feel that the senior actor has taken a dig at Dhanush.
Vikram Prabhu, who was seen standing next to Parthiban, smiled at the moment the latter uttered the film's name, while Vikram and Jayam Ravi appeared expressionless. A few from the crowd are heard laughing at Parthiban's comments.
The veteran actor-filmmaker went on to say that by 'Naane Varuvean' he meant he wanted to be at the press meet even at the cost of his travel plans to Thanjavur. But it looks like many film lovers are reading between the lines.
Dhanush-starrer Naane Varuvean, which hit the screens today, has opened to mixed reviews, and many are pointing out that Parthiban has actually targeted the former. Earlier, there was displeasure among several movie lovers when team Naane Varuvean decided to release their film along with Ponniyin Selvan, which is touted as the most-anticipated movie in Tamil in 2022.
