Music for the Mani Ratnam film has been composed by AR Rahman,
The much-awaited first single, Ponni Nadhi, from Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan: I is all set to be released on July 31 at 6pm. Music for the film is by Academy Award-winning musician AR Rahman. The makers made the announcement on their social media page today along with a new still of Karthi riding on his horse. They wrote, " Let's begin our musical journey into the world of Cholas!#PS1FirstSingle coming your way on 31st July at 6pm! #ManiRatnam #ARRahman #PS1 #PonniyinSelvan @madrastalkies_ @arrahman @tipsofficial @TipsRegional @ilangokrishnan (sic)."
The makers had recently released a short BTS video which has Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman and Sivamani seen engaged in the re-recording work. Mani is seen listening to the sounds created by Rahman and Sivamani. The video ends with the announcement of the firrst single. Ponniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam's dream project and is an adapatation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel of the same name. The plot revolves around the early days of the Chola King Arulmozhivarman. The director had earlier tried to make the film thrice, but it didn't materialise.
The film has an ensemle cast, which includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Jayaram, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala to name a few. The film has been bankrolled by Madras Talkies along with Lyca Productions and is all set to hit screens on September 30 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.
Madras Talkies, Mani Ratnam's home banner, had recently shared that their stint with AR Rahman began exactly 30 years ago with Roja and that the association continues even today. "30 years ago we began our journey with #Roja & now we are gearing up for the first single from #PS1 !#ManiRatnam #ARRahman #PonniyinSelvan releasing on 30.09.22 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam & Kannada @lycaproductions @arrahman @tipsofficia #PS1FirstSingle (sic)." The makers also shared a throwback pictures of Rahman and Mani Ratnam.
