Ponniyin Selvan to release in two instalments.
After two years of the extensive shoot, the filming of Ponniyin Selvan is finally completed. The magnum opus helmed by Mani Ratnam will be released in two parts. The first instalment will be out in Summer 2022 much to the excitement of the fans. The filmmaker's home banner Madras Talkies took to their official social media pages and shared posters in Tamil and English announcing the wrap. The poster features a sharp and magnificent sword with the message 'filming complete' alongside.
The posters are captioned as "PS-1 coming soon! #PS1 #PonniyinSelvan #ManiRatnam @LycaProductions."
Ponniyin Selvan is based on a novel of the same name by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The film has an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Even Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumanu feature in pivotal roles.
On Friday, Karthi who wrapped the shoot took to his Twitter page announced it by teasing Jayam and Trisha. He tweeted, "இளவரசி @trishtrashers, நீங்கள் இட்ட ஆணை நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது. இளவரசேசசசசச @actor_jayamravi, என் பணியும் முடிந்தது! #PS #PonniyinSelvan". The tweet loosely translates as "Princess @trishtrashers, I have fulfilled your order. Young prince @actor_jayamravi, My work is done as well!"
As per the reports, Ravi plays the role of Arulmozhi Varman, while Karthi is his trusted aide Vandhiyathevan. Trisha as Kundavai plays elder sister to Jayam's character.
In the film, Aishwarya will be seen in a double role as Nandini and Mandakini Dev, while Vikram dons the role of Aditya Karikalan.
With this film, Aishwarya returns to movies after nearly four years.
The music for Ponniyin Selvan is done by AR Rahman while Ravi Varman is the cinematographer.
The film has been shot extensively in Thailand, Hyderabad, Chennai and Puducherry. A few schedules also took place at Pollachi in Tamil Nadu, Maheshwar and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
