The Mani Ratnam magnum opus is all set to hit screens on April 28

With just a couple of weeks to go for the release of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan, the team is all set to begin its grand Chola Tour as a part of which they will be visiting different cities to promote the film. While the team will be present at Anna University in Chennai tomorrow (April 15) where the film's anthem will be launched by none other than AR Rahman, the team will then travel to Coimbatore on Sunday where they will be meeting their fans at a mall in Saravanampatti.
In the meantime, Sun TV will be screening a special show on the making of the film. A promo of the same was released today. The video gives a glimpse of all the characters in the film and how certain portions were shot, including the epic battle scenes. The show will be aired on Sunday at 9am. The trailer of the sequel has already become a massive hit and many are looking forward to Nandini's revenge and how the Cholas battle for the throne.
The film, which is an adaptation of Kalki's novel, has been made in two instalments. While the first part was released last September, the second part is all set to hit screens on April 28. The film's ensemble star cast includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Rahman, to name a few.
Cinematography is by Ravi Varman and editing by A Sreekar Prasad. The art direction has been handled by Thotta Tharani. Ponniyin Selvan is bankrolled by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies and Subaskaran's Lyca Productions. With the release of the second part, Mani Ratnam's long-time dream of the adaptation of Kalki's novel will indeed come true. It is to be noted that a number of filmmakers have tried to attempt making Kalki's novel, and Mani Ratnam is the one who has emerged successful in the attempt.
