Ponniyin Selvan 2 star Chiyaan Vikram breaks rib, delays Thangalaan shooting

Tamil superstar Chiyaan Vikram has suffered a broken rib while rehearsing for his upcoming movie Thangalaan.

Chiyaan Vikram, who is basking in the success of Ponniyin Selvan 2 has suffered an injury while rehearsing for his upcoming movie Thangalaan. Vikram's office has confirmed that he suffered a broken rib during rehearsals and will be on bed rest for a few days. Vikram was scheduled to resume shooting for Thangalaan but had to postpone due to his injury. He had been busy promoting Ponniyin Selvan 2 for the past few weeks.

"Thank you for all the love and appreciation #AdithaKarikalan aka Chiyaan Vikram has received and for the astounding response to PS2 from all over the world. Chiyaan sustained an injury during rehearsals resulting in a broken rib due to which he will not be able to join his Thangalaan unit for a short while. He thanks everyone for your love and promises to be back on his feet and rocking at the earliest," said the press note from Vikram's office.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 has garnered a huge critical acclaim and is also performing well at the box office. Written and directed by Mani Ratnam, Vikram's performance in the role of Aditha Karikalan was a big hit with the critics and the audience alike. Thangalaan is written and directed by Pa Ranjith. Set againt the backdrop of KGF, Thangalaan will see Vikram in a never-before-seen look as a guardian of a mining community.

Producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green earlier was quite upbeat about Thangalaan . "Thangalaan is a world cinema. We want to dub it into a maximum number of languages. We have tied up with Netflix. We wanted to give it a wider reach," he said earlier.

Thangalaan has already generated buzz due to Vikram's distinctive appearance. Set in colonial India, the movie is a period drama with Vikram portraying a tribal man. According to director Pa Ranjith , Thangalaan will be an "enjoyable and entertaining film" that will appeal to viewers.

Besides Vikram, Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Harikrishnan.
