The actress plays boatwoman Poonguzhali in the Mani Ratnam magnum opus
With just a few days to go for the release of the second instalment of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, the one particular segment that Aishwarya Leksmi is eagerly waiting to watch is the the face-off between Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). "I think that's quite an interesting trajectory," said Aishwarya Lekshmi, during the film's promotions in Coimbatore.
ishwarya Lekshmi plays Samudra Kumari, the boatwoman who rows Vallavarayan Vanthiyethevan (Karthi) to Sri Lanka to meet Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) She is also the niece of Mandakini Devi (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). Talking about her character, Aishwarya Lekshmi said that she loved playing the character.
"This film has been extremely special and I have never seen such a huge crowd gathered to watch a film. Eka Lakhani's team did a lot of research for every look, be it mine, Trisha's or Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's. They had to ensure that the film had all the commercial elements but at the same time, was aesthetically appealing.``
When the actress was quizzed about what kind of man she would like to marry in real life, she said in a simple manner, "A good person," much to the applause of the audience.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 is all set to hit screens on April 28. The team has embarked on the Chola tour and have already covered destinations like Coimbatore, Chennai, Kochi and Delhi. Pictures from the tour have already set the internet on fire. The film is an adaptation of Kalki's eminent novel of the same name, which was penned in five parts. Mani Ratnam has made the film in two instalments.
The film has an ensemble supporting cast which includes Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwin Kakumanu, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Mohan Raman, Prakash Raj and Rahman to name a few. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
