Vikram was posed with an interesting question at a pre-release event in Bengaluru and the actor's answer is sure to win hearts
Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam has been garnering a lot of love and praise from moviegoers across the world for pulling off a great feat. His Ponniyin Selvan duology tactfully managed to not only retain the ethos of author Kalki Krishnamurthy's source but also boast a sense of unique grandeur that fans have come to associate with and love about his vast work. Ably supported by his two co-writers (B. Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel), Mani Ratnam's rendition of the historical epic is imbued with finesse and skill that offers equal justice to all the characters and their respective needs & desires.
And the film's talisman and one of the main leads, Chiyaan Vikram, recognises the richness of the story and the fact that each character is a crucial element in the narrative. Though his Aditha Karikalan is one of the core driving forces of the drama, Vikram strongly feels that the world of Ponniyin Selvan is so vibrant that as an actor, he is able to connect with every other character with the same amount of passion. So, if given a choice, which is that one character, aside from Aditha Karikalan, that he would like to play? At a pre-release event in Bengaluru, Vikram was posed with this very question and his response is sure to win hearts.
"Each main character in the film has its own intricacies and a strong sense of depth. Nandini (played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is very grey, so, I like that a lot. She is justified in what she's doing and what she wants, and her anger is what drives the film. I like Kundavai (Trisha Krishnan) for the fact that she is so powerful. Even at a time like that, you had a woman who has been given so much power and she actually controls her brothers. Towards them, she is very loving & caring but the way she flirts with Vanthiyathevan, the dialogues, the scenes, etc. - I love all of that. But Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) is the pick of the lot because the whole film will fall flat on its face if it isn't for his antics and humour and just the way he takes everything through. So, if I had a choice, I would take any of these [characters]," said Vikram.

Well, one does love and adore Vikram's version of Aditha Karikalan but knowing just how versatile and tenacious he is as an actor, there's no doubt he could pull off any of the roles (regardless of their gender) with great ease. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is currently playing in theatres.
