The biggest multi-starrer of Tamil in recent times, Ponniyin Selvan 2, emerged as the highest grosser in Kollywood in 2023, as announced by makers a few days ago. They revealed a while ago that the Mani Ratnam film grossed 300 crores from across the world.
When cinephiles have been eagerly looking forward to how much more the movie could earn in the coming days, one of its producers, Lyca Productions, seems to have faced heat from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The law enforcement and economic intelligence agency conducted raids at a few offices of the production company in Chennai today.
According to sources, the searches are happening at their offices under money laundering suspicion. An official announcement on its outcome is awaited. ED has been strictly following the activities of a few actors and production companies of several film industries in recent times.
Lyca Productions has bankrolled many films in recent times and is set to foray into Tollywood soon. Theera Kaadhal, starring Jai, Aishwarya Rajesh and Sshivada in lead roles, is their next release. Ajith's Vidaa Muyarchi and Lal Salaam, starring Rajinikanth in a cameo, are a few of their forthcoming releases.
Rajini is expected to do another film for the production house. Darbar was the first movie which brought the Superstar and the production firm together. They debuted in Kollywood with Vijay-starrer Kaththi which was released in 2014. It created controversy owing to their Sri Lankan connection leading to trouble for the movie's release.
Meanwhile, team Ponniyin Selvan 2 will be unveiling the Ilaiyor Soodar song today evening. Makers are trying to attract more crowds as last week's Tamil releases managed to impress only a limited audience.
