The film is the second instalment of the magnum opus helmed by Mani Ratnam
The second instalment of director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is all set to hit screens on April 28. However, there has been no update about the album and its songs. The film's composer AR Rahman, today, took to his social media handle to announce that the reason behind the delay is because the team is loading up on more goodies. He wrote, "News about PS Score ..our team decided to load you up with more goodies …hence the delay ..will announce new release date when it’s ready…#love #peace #music #PonniyinSelvan #maniratnam (sic)." Going by the tweet, it seems like the album will have more songs than originally planned.
The post-production work for the second part is going in full swing. The film is an adaptation of eminent writer Kalki's eponymous work of the same name. The story revolves around the battle for the throne in the Chola Kingdom after the reigning king Sundara Chola (played by Prakash Raj) gets bedridden. While Vikram (Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan), Trisha (Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai) and Jayam Ravi (Ponniyin Selvan Arulmozhi Varman) play his children, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Nandini Devi (Queen of Pazhuvoor) and Karthi plays the Chola Army commander and spy Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan.
While the book is a five-part novel, the film has been divided into two instalments. The first part (comprising the first two books) unraveled the beginning of the battle for the Chola throne and the story traverses through the journey of Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan. The second part is likely to be an action-packed one as the remaining three books take the readers on an interesting journey. The makers had dropped a glimpse from the second instalment while announcing the release date.
Art direction is by Thotta Tharani, cinematography by Ravi Varma and editing by Sreekar Prasad. The film is bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
