Ponman teaser: Basil Joseph seems to have donned the angry young man avatar in the film, which also features Sajin Gopu of Aavesham fame

Basil Joseph recently announced that his film Ponman will be having an early release on January 30, 2025. After the surprise announcement, the official teaser of Ponman has also been unveiled, raising the anticipation for the Basil Joseph-starrer. Basil Joseph in Ponman teaser

The makers of Ponman took to their official social media handles and unveiled the teaser on January 20. The teaser begins with Basil Joseph’s character giving a word of caution to Sajin Gopu. Both the men look livid as they stare at one another intensely.

As the teaser moves on to more tense scenes, we hear Sajin Gopu saying that ‘he should come to meet him at 3am’. He further asks who is the thief, before declaring that he makes an honest living. Fights break out on screen as more characters are introduced, including Lijomol Jose.

More confrontations play out before Basil Joseph issues a strong warning that even if he were to be killed and buried, the perpetrator should ensure that he is gone for good. Otherwsie, Basil declares that he would come back from his grave for his ‘Ponnu’. Ponnu means gold in Malayalam, and the ‘Pon’ in the title Ponman could be a reference to that.

While sharing the teaser link, Basil wrote on social media “The wait is over! The official teaser of Ponman is here – get ready for a thrilling ride...!!!!”

Ponman cast

Basil Joseph stars in the lead role of Ajesh, while Sajin Gopu will be seen as Mariyano. Lijomol Jose plays Stephy, another key role. Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, Rajesh Sharma, Jaya Kurup, Vyshnavi Kalyani, Lakshmy Sanju, Reju Sivadas, Maju Anchal, and Shylaja P Ambu are also part of the cast.

Jothish Shankar is making his directorial debut with Ponman, which is based on GR Indugopan's novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar. Indugopan has also written the film’s script, along with Justin Mathew of Minnal Murali fame. Basil had directed Minnal Murali, which starred Tovino Thomas

Ponman was earlier scheduled to release in theatres on February 6, 2025. But in a surprise move, the release date was preponed to January 30, 2025, which was also the release date of Mohanlal-Shobana's Thudarum. Now, speculations are rife that Mohanlal's film, directed by Tharun Moorthy, could be postponed to February. However, the makers of Thudarum have not given any official updates till now.
