The film was slated to hit the big screen in December 2022.
On Thursday, it was said that Pippa was likely to skip the theatrical release. The long-awaited war drama features Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles. It was said that the film is eyeing an OTT release, and they are finalizing the streaming platform. All of the claims have been denied in a statement from producers Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Kamal Gianchandani.
The statement said that this is in response to an article that came out yesterday in a newspaper with the headline "PIPPED FOR AN OTT RELEASE." The article made some completely untrue claims about supposed problems between Pippa's creators and multiplex operators, which supposedly led the film to choose an OTT release. Before this report was published, no multiplex operators or producers were contacted for comment.
Kamal Gianchandani, who is in charge of the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Ronnie Screwvala of PVRINOX all said that there are no problems between RSVP, Roy Kapur Films, and multiplex operators that have not been solved. Any claims to the contrary made in rumours or stories are false and untrue. They are all dedicated to working together to provide viewers in theatres across India with top-notch material. A formal announcement on the premiere date of the big-screen adaptation of Pippa will be made soon.
This movie, Pippa is based on the war memoir The Blazing Chaffees by Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta. It tells the story of the hard 48-hour Battle of Garibpur, which happened on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and set the stage for the next battle. The Russian PT-76 was a great amphibious combat tank. It was called "Pippa" because it floated on the water like an empty ghee da dabba. It was a component of the Brigadier General Mehta-led 45th Cavalry tank unit.
In a struggle for the freedom of another country, the young Mehta and our country both come of age as characters in the film. Capt. Mehta rises to the challenge and leads his troops to victory, setting the stage for India's eventual success.
Pippa stars Ishaan, Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Soni Razdan. RSVP and Roy Kapur Productions produced it, and Raja Krishna Menon is the director.
