In conversation with Collider, the filmmaker said that the movie will be unlike any other version of the tale and characters that have been told before and that it was very personal to him.
“The idea of a Pinocchio that talks about things that I consider very deep but it’s fun and it’s a musical at the same time, I find it really incredibly moving,” said del Toro in the interview.
According to reports, the stop-motion movie will be a dark take on the Italian classic of the young boy, whose nose grows a bit longer every time he lies. The movie will also have an ensemble cast with Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, Ron Perlman, and David Bradley.
