Pindam, a horror drama starring Sriram, Kushee Ravi, Srinivas Avasarala and Easwari Rao in key roles, marks the directorial debut of US-based entrepreneur Saikiran Daida. Yeshwanth Daggumati is bankrolling the film under Kalaahi Media. The film is gearing up for a theatrical release on December 15, before and after several biggies like Hi Nanna, Salaar, Dunki and Extra Ordinary Man.

The producers, Saikiran and Yeshwanth, were good friends long before the film’s release and owned software companies in the US. Nearly 8 years ago, Yeshwanth, as he hit the gym, noticed that Saikiran was regularly scribbling on a notepad, conveying his interest in directing a film someday. While he thought it'd be a phase that'd pass soon, he was surprised by his consistent zest to make a film.

They initially finalised a project—a crime comedy—that was to star Siddu Jonnalagadda and be entirely shot in Dallas (co-produced by Kona Venkat), but COVID-19 visa delays altered their plans. In the meantime, Saikiran managed to finish the script within a week. Yeshwanth liked the idea; they shifted to India soon and the project got rolling immediately.

The film is based on a story about a house that Saikiran’s grandma narrated to him during his younger years. Srinivas Avasarala came on board after watching the director’s award-winning short, Smoke. There are so many moments that’ll spook you and the plot keeps taking different twists and turns, the makers say, while justifying the ‘scariest film ever’ caption. They add that it will thrill crowds and have a message too.

Director Saikiran was so meticulous with his planning that he’d wrapped up the shoot before schedule. The young team faced several challenges during filming; Easwari Rao was even bleeding when a sharp object hit her accidentally and there were practical issues while filming with child artists. Just with the trailer, the makers secured a deal with a distributor and have almost finalised the OTT rights with a streamer.
