Srinivas Avasarala, besides acting in it, is also the writer and director of the romance drama
Srinivas Avasarala, who’s made a mark as an actor, writer and a director in a career spanning over a decade and a half, came up with his third directorial Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi this year. Naga Shaurya, Malvika Nair played the lead roles in the film that Avasarala wrote, directed and also acted in. The film was jointly produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Dasari Padmaja under People Media Factory and Dasari Productions.
Given the actor-director’s earlier efforts like Nootokka Jillala Andagaadu (as a writer), Oohalu Gusagusalade, Jyo Achyutananda and the credibility of its lead actors, there were huge expectations surrounding Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi, when it released in theatres on March 17 this year. However, the indie-styled romance failed to impress movie goers and critics alike and had a modest run at the box office.
Nearly seven weeks after its theatrical run, Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi is out on OTT today. Sun NXT acquired the streaming rights of the film and premiered it this weekend minus much hype or hoopla. Kalyani Malik’s music was one of the major highlights of the romance - songs like Kanula Chatu Meghama, Neetho Ee Gadichina Kalam, Idi Kadaa and the title track were a hit with listeners.
The story of Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi revolves around Sanjay (Naga Shaurya) and his senior Anupama (Malvika Nair), college buddies who stick together through their thick and thin. They move abroad to study further, have a jolly good time, fall in love eventually until a tricky phase in their relationship forces them to part ways. Even as they try to move on in life, their past continues to haunt them.
Megha Chowdhury, Ashok Kumar, Abhishek Maharshi, Srividhya, Varanasi Soumya Chalamcharla, Harini Rao, Arjun Prasad played other important roles in the film. Edited by Kiran Ganti, the film has cinematography by Sunil Kumar Nama. Azmat Ansari(UK), John Murphy(UK), Ramakrishna were the art directors.
